The Omnibus Ensemble was organized in the spring of 2004 by a group of enthusiastic musicians. The central goal of this collective is to propagate world contemporary music in Uzbekistan and to present the creativity of modern Uzbek composers abroad.
It has become a tradition of the Ensemble to perform master-pieces of world musical culture for the first time in Uzbekistan. Among the premier performances, which have been made by Omnibus during its two years of existence, are pieces by Igor Stravinsky, Olivier Messiaen, Alfred Schnittke, Edison Denisov, Sofia Goubajdulina, Gyorgy Ligeti, Heinz Holliger, Klaus Huber, Felix Yanov-Yanovsky and others.
Every concert program of the Ensemble has been presented on the stage of Ilkhom Theatre. These programs are exclusive in that all of them were built on the principle of combining music with different types of art – theater, painting, poetry, dance, cinematography.
In October 2005 Omnibus organized the first master-class for young composers in Central Asia under the leadership of Felix Yanov-Yanovsky. The participation of young composers from Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan has become one more step on the way of integration of musical cultures of these countries.
The pieces of Anton Webern and Alban Berg, which will be presented in the Ilkhom-XX Festival program, will be performed for the first time in Uzbekistan.
